BlockBeats news, on April 17, according to WSJ, a shipping industry analyst said that Iran’s Foreign Minister announced on Friday that the Strait of Hormuz is “fully open” to vessels using designated Iranian routes, but this has not convinced the shipping industry that maritime traffic through the strait can resume.
Richard Meade, Editor-in-Chief of Lloyd’s List, said: “From a shipping perspective, this is indeed promising, but currently it does not provide anyone with enough clear information to make any decisions.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister's statement did not explicitly clarify whether Iran still plans to charge tolls on past vessels.
Analyst Nightingale noted that Iran’s Foreign Minister Alireza Aliaghi included an important clarification in his post on X. He stated that the Strait of Hormuz is open via a “coordinated route.” Does this mean that previously mined, standard routes remain closed? This is not a full opening of the Strait of Hormuz. In fact, the term “coordinated” implies mandatory communication with Iran before passage, which may cause some shipowners to reconsider sending vessels through. This also does not amount to a full opening.
