Haun Ventures CEO Katie Haun told CNBC that stablecoin demand will surge as AI agents intensify global payment competition, pointing to Mastercard’s $1.8 billion acquisition of BVNK as a turning point. She noted that stablecoin transaction volume has reached $12.5 trillion, with stablecoin regulation expected to evolve under CFTC compliance pressures. The CFTC and SEC recently updated guidelines for crypto assets, with potential progress on the CLARITY Act on the horizon.

BlockBeats news: On March 22, Katie Haun, founder and CEO of the crypto venture capital firm Haun Ventures, told CNBC in an interview, “What’s happening in the global payments space is essentially an arms race. This week, Mastercard acquired the stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK for up to $1.8 billion, officially entering the stablecoin space. This is one of Mastercard’s largest acquisitions ever. Stablecoins enable instant, frictionless transfers of digital dollars globally—this is a truly significant innovation. Transaction volumes in this space have already reached $12.5 trillion, and we believe this scale will only continue to grow in the AI era.”

On the regulatory front, Katie Haun said, “This week, the CFTC and SEC jointly issued guidance on the crypto industry’s core question of what constitutes a security versus a commodity. I’ve heard the Senate Banking Committee is advancing a compromise proposal, with an announcement expected as early as today—I’m cautiously optimistic. But the key issue is that Congress has only three working months left before the midterm elections, and they need to move quickly to bring the CLARITY Act to a vote after the Easter recess.”

Regarding the integration of AI and blockchain, Katie Haun said, “AI agents will increasingly take over transactions and payments from humans. If you think AI agents will use the same payment systems as humans, I believe that’s incorrect. Agents require instant settlement, 24/7, globally—and stablecoins are the infrastructure built for this new era.”
