ME News reports that on April 15 (UTC+8), according to 1M AI News monitoring, Google has officially launched its desktop search app (Google app for desktop) for global Windows users, following prior testing only in the U.S. Users can summon the search box by pressing Alt+Space to directly search the web, local files, installed applications, and Google Drive files. The built-in AI Mode delivers AI-powered responses and follow-up questions powered by Gemini. The app integrates Google Lens and screen sharing: Lens enables searching any content on the screen, such as translating text in images or solving problems; screen sharing lets users select a specific window or full screen to ask questions directly without switching apps. The Verge has compared it to macOS’s Spotlight, but enhanced with AI capabilities. Currently, the app supports only English and requires Windows 10 or later. Google is also reportedly testing a standalone macOS version of Gemini, which will directly compete with desktop versions of ChatGPT and Claude. (Source: BlockBeats)
