Google Gemini to Replace Daily Usage Limits with Compute-Based Quotas, marking a shift in AI + crypto news. The update, effective May 17, 2026, replaces fixed query caps with a system based on compute usage, refreshing every 5 hours and including a weekly limit. Factors such as prompt complexity and conversation length determine usage. Paid users receive higher quotas based on their tier. This change appears in on-chain news as AI tools evolve.

AIMPACT Message, May 19 (UTC+8): According to monitoring by Beating, Google has announced updates to the terms of service for its AI assistant, Gemini, effective May 17, 2026. Starting on this date, usage limits for users aged 18 and older will be fully overhauled. Gemini will eliminate the traditional daily cap on query counts and instead implement a usage-based limit that refreshes every five hours with a weekly cap. Under the new system, quota consumption will be calculated in real time based on the complexity of prompts, features used, and conversation length. Utilizing Pro models, Deep Research, Extended Thinking, Deep Think, and media generation functions such as images, videos, or music will consume quota more rapidly. Paid users’ limits will be directly tied to their subscription tier: AI Plus subscribers at $8/month receive twice the quota of free users; AI Pro subscribers at $20/month receive four times the quota; and AI Ultra subscribers at $250/month receive twenty times the quota of free users.
