Google Gemini Mac native app launches, enabling interaction with screen content

ME News reports that on April 16 (UTC+8), the app entered a limited beta test. Its core feature is screen sharing: users can share any window with Gemini to receive context-aware responses based on the current screen content, including local files. Press Option + Space to instantly summon the Gemini mini-dialogue box from any interface without switching windows. The app also integrates image generation (Nano Banana) and video generation (Veo). ChatGPT and Claude’s Mac clients have been available for nearly a year, making Google the last of the three major AI companies to launch a desktop version. In a blog post, Google described this as merely a “first step” toward building a “truly personalized, proactive, and powerful desktop assistant,” with more features to be announced in the coming months.
