According to a data center expansion strategy unveiled by the German government on the 17th local time, by 2030, Germany’s general-purpose data center computing power will at least double from 2025 levels, with computing power dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) increasing to at least four times the 2025 level. On the same day, German Minister for Digitalization and National Modernization, Carsten Schneider, stated that this strategy aims to meet the rapidly growing demand for data processing driven by AI applications, cloud services, and digitalization. “Globally, we clearly still have significant ground to catch up,” Schneider said. The strategic document, which is set to be submitted to the German cabinet for approval, outlines 28 specific measures with the core goal of establishing Germany as Europe’s leading data center hub with data sovereignty.
