Derived from Coinotag, the Left Party and Alliance 90/The Greens in Germany propose abolishing the one-year tax-free holding period for Bitcoin. The reform aims to tax all crypto profits like stocks, targeting €47 billion in untaxed gains in 2024. Currently, German investors avoid capital gains tax on Bitcoin profits after holding for over one year. The proposal seeks to treat cryptocurrencies as financial assets, taxing all gains regardless of holding duration. Only about 3% of Germany’s 7 million crypto users currently pay taxes on their holdings, according to Bundestag member Isabelle Vandre.
