According to 1M AI News, Brett Adcock, CEO of humanoid robotics company Figure, has announced the creation of a new AI lab called Hark, aiming to build “the world’s most advanced personal intelligence” by deeply integrating proprietary multimodal models with custom hardware to create a universal interface between humans and machines. Hark has been operating in secret for eight months, initially funded with $100 million from Adcock’s personal wealth, estimated by Forbes at $19.1 billion.
Adcock told Bloomberg that Hark is developing "a range of AI devices, for both personal and home use," with form factors distinct from existing smartphones, wearables, and smart glasses. The first AI models are planned for release this summer, with hardware to follow.
On the team side, former Apple industrial designer Abidur Chowdhury has been appointed as Head of Design, having spent seven years at Apple working on the iPhone and Mac product lines, including the recent iPhone Air. The hardware team has also brought in Apple veterans David Narajowski and Dave Wilkes. On the AI research side, several senior researchers have been recruited from Meta’s Superintelligence Lab. The team currently consists of approximately 45 members and is expected to expand to 100 by the first half of the year, with additional talent from Google, Amazon, and Tesla. Hark has secured a computing agreement with NVIDIA, with thousands of GPUs set to come online next month for model training.
Adcock is a serial entrepreneur whose company Figure, founded in 2022, recently achieved a valuation of $39 billion. He previously founded the recruitment platform Vettery (exited for $100 million), the electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft company Archer (NYSE: ACHR), and the weapons detection company Cover. Figure will operate independently.
