According to Bitjie, Ethereum has set a new transaction processing record, achieving 24,192 TPS in the past 24 hours. This milestone was driven by the inclusion of high-speed Layer 2 solution Lighter in the transaction count. Lighter processes around 4,000 TPS, significantly outperforming Ethereum’s base layer, which handles 100–200 TPS. The surge follows recent upgrades like Pectra and Dencun, which improved Layer 2 throughput. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and others celebrated the progress on social media, highlighting the network’s ongoing scalability improvements. Bankless host Ryan Sean Adams credited Lighter and ZK technology for a 200x scalability boost since October, predicting TPS could reach 100,000 in the coming months. However, Lighter has faced multiple outages since its October 1 launch, including a major incident on October 28, for which the team compensated nearly 3,900 wallets with $774,872 in USDC. Some industry figures, including ₿RRR Capital’s Rezso Schmiedt, have raised concerns about the sustainability of value accumulation for Ethereum (ETH), as Layer 2 solutions collect fees in stablecoins rather than ETH.
