Derived from Forklog, the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), founded by Elon Musk in 2024, lost its centralized structure eight months before its planned dissolution. Initially aimed at reducing government spending and fighting bureaucracy, the agency became known for a series of scandals. DOGE’s name coincidentally shares an acronym with the Dogecoin cryptocurrency, which Musk has long supported. Despite claims of saving taxpayer money, the agency faced legal challenges, errors in financial reporting, and mass layoffs. By November 2025, it was reported that DOGE no longer functions as a centralized entity, with many of its functions absorbed by other government departments.
