As reported by Bijiie, Do Kwon's defense team submitted a sentencing recommendation on Wednesday, arguing that the 12-year prison term proposed by prosecutors in his plea deal is 'far beyond necessary.' They stated that a 5-year sentence would be sufficient for the charges related to the Terra cryptocurrency fraud case. The defense noted that Kwon has already spent nearly three years in custody, more than half of it in harsh conditions in Montenegro, and as part of the plea deal, he agreed to forfeit over $19 million in assets and property. Kwon is also facing trial in South Korea, where prosecutors are seeking a 40-year prison sentence for the same charges. U.S. Manhattan District Judge Paul Engelmayer is scheduled to sentence Kwon on December 11. The government is expected to submit its sentencing recommendation soon.
