Wrench attacks surge 33% in H1 2026, causing $124M in losses

HuoXing Finance reports that, according to CertiK’s report “Hack3D: Wrench Attacks in the First Half of 2026,” 52 wrench attacks were confirmed in the first half of 2026, a 33.3% increase from 39 recorded in the same period of 2025. The documented financial losses associated with these attacks amounted to approximately $124.1 million, up from $10.5 million a year earlier. Geographically, the threat landscape is highly concentrated: of the 52 confirmed incidents, 39 occurred in Europe, with France alone accounting for 33, making it the primary national hub in the dataset. Strategically, the most notable change in the first half of the year was a sharp rise in crypto-related burglaries, increasing from one publicly reported case in the first half of 2025 to 20 in the first half of 2026. Kidnappings remained high, rising from 12 to 16 cases. Torture incidents remained unchanged at four, while murders remained at one in each first half-year period.
