Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah is at the center of a multi-club transfer tug-of-war, with Serie A side Como preparing to meet the Blues’ £30M valuation after an initial offer fell short. The 26-year-old defender, currently on international duty with England at the 2026 World Cup, has become one of the summer window’s most closely watched targets.
Como’s opening bid came in at roughly £23.3M, structured as €28M plus €2M in add-ons. Chelsea said no. The London club wants a package totaling around £30M, or approximately €35M.
A crowded field with an Italian lean
Como isn’t the only club circling. Inter Milan has emerged as a serious competitor, with reports suggesting that negotiations between Inter and the player’s camp are already underway. Chalobah’s representatives have reportedly traveled to Italy to discuss personal terms.
Back in England, Crystal Palace and Fulham have also registered interest. But all signs point to Chalobah preferring a move to Serie A over staying in the Premier League.
What Chelsea is selling
Chalobah appeared in 47 matches for Chelsea during the 2025/26 season, including 34 Premier League appearances. He has also earned a place in England’s World Cup squad, with negotiations running parallel to the tournament.
At 26, Chalobah sits in the sweet spot for a center-back, old enough to have shed the inconsistency that plagues younger defenders and young enough to offer a buying club four or five peak years.
What this means for the clubs involved
For Como, landing Chalobah would represent a significant statement signing. The club has been aggressive in the transfer market as it looks to establish itself in Serie A following promotion under manager Cesc Fàbregas. Paying £30M for a Premier League regular with World Cup credentials would be their most high-profile acquisition.
For Inter Milan, their ability to offer Champions League football gives them an edge in negotiations with the player even if their financial offer to Chelsea is comparable to Como’s.
The scenario where both Italian clubs are bidding simultaneously is ideal for Chelsea. Competition drives prices up, and having two motivated buyers reduces the risk of a deal collapsing entirely. Chalobah’s camp being already present in Italy suggests a deal with one club or the other may not be far off. The £30M figure is the number to watch.
