Based on AiCoin, CME Group reported a record single-day trading volume of 794,903 contracts for its crypto futures and options on November 21, surpassing the previous record set in August. The surge highlights increased demand for regulated crypto derivatives amid heightened market volatility. CME noted sustained growth in crypto product activity in 2025, driven by both institutional and retail investors. Giovanni Vicioso, CME's global head of crypto products, said the rise reflects growing interest in tools to manage market risks. The contracts cover assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum, used by traders to hedge price swings or speculate without holding the underlying tokens. Year-to-date, CME's average daily volume (ADV) for crypto contracts stands at 270,900, with a nominal value of $12 billion, up 132% from the same period last year. Open interest, the number of unsettled contracts, rose 82% to 299,700, with a total nominal value of $26.6 billion. In Q4 alone, average daily volume increased 106% year-over-year to 403,200 contracts, with a nominal value of $14.2 billion. Open interest during the same period rose 117% to 493,700 contracts, valued at $35.4 billion. The rise in trading volume suggests more investors are seeking regulated exposure to crypto markets despite ongoing uncertainties. CME has steadily expanded its crypto product offerings since launching Bitcoin futures in 2017 to meet this demand.
