In accordance with Coindesk, Cloudflare experienced a major outage on Tuesday, causing widespread service disruptions across thousands of websites and applications, including several large centralized crypto services. BitMEX and Toncoin faced outages, while platforms like X and ChatGPT also went down, affecting millions of users. The incident reignited discussions around the need for decentralized infrastructure, with some in the crypto industry advocating for wider adoption of DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks). Fadl Mantash, CISO at Tribe payments, highlighted the vulnerability of the digital economy to centralized failures, noting how a single point of failure can disrupt transactions and services. Gaimin CEO Nökkvi Dan Ellidason emphasized the importance of a distributed cloud model to safeguard against such fragility.
