As reported by HashNews, Chainalysis' National Security Intelligence Director Andrew Fierman and anti-fraud nonprofit founder Erin West have highlighted the growing threat of 'killing pig' scams, which are now seen as a national security issue. These scams, which involve building trust before luring victims into fake crypto platforms, rose nearly 40% in 2024. In 2023, the U.S. Department of Justice seized $112 million in related crypto assets. The scams have evolved into transnational criminal operations involving human trafficking and money laundering. Authorities are responding with new task forces and cross-border enforcement actions, including a $47 million freeze in August 2025.
