Derived from TheMarketPeriodical, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced on December 4, 2025, that spot cryptocurrency trading is now permitted on CFTC-registered futures exchanges, beginning with Bitcoin and Ethereum. The move aims to provide clearer regulatory guidelines and enhance investor protection, shifting from a 'regulation by enforcement' approach. Exchanges must comply with strict rules, including real-time surveillance and anti-manipulation controls. CME Group, Intercontinental Exchange, and others are preparing to launch spot crypto contracts, expected to start in Q1 2026. While the industry welcomed the decision as a structural shift, the crypto market cap dipped 1.9% in 24 hours as traders remained cautious.
