ChainThink reports that on March 16, according to The Information, ByteDance has paused the global rollout of its latest video generation model, Seedance 2.0, following a series of copyright disputes with major Hollywood studios and streaming platforms. Last month, several U.S. studios, including Disney, threatened legal action; in response, ByteDance stated it would implement measures to prevent Seedance 2.0 from being used without authorization to infringe intellectual property rights.
Last month, Disney sent a cease-and-desist letter to ByteDance, accusing it of training and powering the Seedance 2.0 model without authorization using Disney characters. Disney claimed that ByteDance preloaded Seedance with an unauthorized library of copyrighted characters from franchises such as Star Wars and Marvel, and misrepresented these characters as public domain content.
ByteDance originally planned to launch Seedance 2.0 to global users in mid-March, but has now paused these plans. The legal team is reviewing and addressing potential legal issues, while engineers are enhancing protective mechanisms to prevent the model from generating content that could lead to further intellectual property infringements.
