BlockBeats news, on February 7, according to official news, Bithumb released a follow-up announcement regarding the "Bitcoin airdrop" incident. The platform stated that during the reward distribution process of the event yesterday, due to a Bitcoin amount input error, some customers were airdropped a large amount of Bitcoin.
Through its abnormal transaction internal control system, Bithumb restricted the transactions and withdrawals of 695 customers within 35 minutes after the erroneous payment occurred. More than 99% of the erroneously paid amount has been recovered, and customer losses were minimized through quick measures. The remaining unrecovered assets are still being processed. Details are as follows:
· Number of erroneous transfers: 620,000 BTC (2.95% of total BTC)
· Recovered amount: 618,212 BTC (approximately 99.7% of the total)
· 1,788 BTC equivalent assets (KRW and other virtual assets) that had been sold have also been recovered at 93%
(Confirmed that the erroneously transferred Bitcoin has not been transferred to an external address)
BlockBeats previously reported that an employee at the South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb mistakenly distributed 2,000 BTC instead of 2,000 KRW when issuing rewards, causing hundreds of users to unexpectedly receive the airdrop. Affected by this incident, the price of Bitcoin on the Bithumb platform once dropped 10% compared to other markets.
