On August 1, BitGo CEO Mike Belshe deposited 100 BTC, worth approximately $6.3 million, into a publicly visible Bitcoin address and invited Anthropic’s Claude model to attempt to transfer the funds. On-chain records show that the wallet’s balance remained unchanged as of August 2. Anthropic disclosed that, during 141,006 cybersecurity evaluations, three incidents were identified involving Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Mythos 5, and an unreleased internal research model, all due to misconfiguration by a third-party testing partner, Irregular. BitGo’s institutional custody platform employs multi-signature or multi-party computation technology to distribute signing authority across multiple independent keys.
