IT Home reported on November 2 that, according to tech media Appleinsider yesterday, Apple's first smart home hub, HomeView, can function as a HomeKit security camera to provide home security for users.

The leaker pdfu discovered in the localization files of HomeView Software 27.2 that the camera on the HomeView screen can be used to monitor the home environment. Once enabled, household members can view the camera’s live feed or recorded footage.
Meanwhile, HomeView allows users to select from multiple camera monitoring statuses; IT Home provides further details below:
- Disabled: HomeView does not detect motion, record video, or provide live video streaming.
- Activity detection: The device detects motion and sends alerts to the user, but does not record video or allow live video streaming through the camera.
- Live video streaming: Family members can view the camera's real-time feed but will not record any footage.
- Live video streaming with recording enabled: Enable both live video streaming and automatic recording. Family members can access live footage at any time and review recorded videos.
Users can also set custom times to turn the camera on or off based on their circumstances—for example, stopping recording when someone is at home and only enabling live streaming or recording when they are away. However, please note that Apple is currently testing these features, and an immediate release is unlikely.
