Anthropic announced on May 21 the opening of a new office in Milan, its sixth in Europe this year. The company reported a 9x rise in EMEA run-rate revenue and a 10x increase in large-business accounts. Offices now span London, Dublin, Zurich, Paris, and Munich. On-chain news shows growing AI interest in Southern Europe. New token listings may follow as the region’s crypto and tech sectors expand.

Anthropic is planting a flag in Italy. The AI safety company announced on May 21 that it will open a new office in Milan, adding Southern Europe to a continental footprint that has grown remarkably fast.

Milan becomes Anthropic’s sixth European office launched in under a year. The new hub follows offices in London, Dublin, Zurich, Paris, and Munich, the latter two of which opened in late 2025.

The numbers behind the push

Anthropic has reported more than a 9x year-on-year increase in run-rate revenue across the EMEA region. Large-business accounts in the same geography are up roughly 10x over the same period.

Chris Ciauri, Anthropic’s managing director of international operations, framed the move in straightforward terms.

“After France and Germany, Italy is a natural next step.”

Italy wasn’t even listed among Anthropic’s target cities six months ago. The fact that it appeared on the roadmap and got an office in that timeframe suggests the company is responding to inbound demand rather than following a rigid long-term blueprint.

Anthropic’s European chess match

Founded by former OpenAI executives Dario and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic has built its brand around AI safety research and its Claude family of large language models.

The London office, which houses around 200 staff, serves as the company’s European headquarters. Dublin provides access to Ireland’s favorable corporate tax structure and deep tech talent pool. Zurich taps into Switzerland’s financial services corridor. Paris and Munich address the two largest continental economies.

What this means for investors and the AI landscape

Anthropic remains privately held, so there’s no public stock to buy.

The 9x EMEA revenue growth figure is a signal about the European enterprise AI market as a whole. The Milan office specifically signals growing AI adoption in Southern European markets. If Italian businesses are generating enough demand to justify a dedicated office, that suggests the generative AI adoption curve is broadening beyond the usual early-adopter markets.

Opening six offices in a year means significant fixed costs in salaries, leases, and local operations. But with run-rate revenue growing at 9x and large accounts at 10x, the company clearly believes the trajectory justifies the bet.
