On May 13, Amazon announced the discontinuation of its Rufus chatbot and the launch of Alexa for Shopping, a new AI assistant. The tool, now live, leverages shopping history and appears in search results to deliver personalized product information. Rufus features will be integrated into Alexa. This update coincides with growing interest in AI and crypto news, following new token listings on major exchanges.

AIMPACT update: On May 13 (UTC+8), Amazon announced the shutdown of its standalone Rufus shopping chatbot and its integration into Alexa+, launching a new AI shopping assistant called “Alexa for Shopping.” The tool went live on Wednesday and can answer user inquiries and execute shopping tasks on their behalf. Amazon stated that the new tool integrates user shopping history and other data to become “the best and most personalized AI shopping assistant in the world.” As part of this strategic shift, Amazon is embedding Alexa directly into its store search results. When users browse specific products, a chat window appears with information and several recommended items. Users can summon the assistant via the cursive “A” icon on Amazon’s website or app, or through Echo Show devices. The standalone Rufus chatbot will be discontinued, but its recommendation engine and shopping history will inform select queries within Alexa for Shopping. Daniel Rausch, head of Amazon’s Alexa business, said the new service outperforms other AI shopping tools because it has access to valuable data such as customer reviews and an extensive product catalog, enabling it to reliably inform users about inventory status or estimated delivery times. He noted that other AI systems struggle in shopping because they merely scrape web results and insert them into conversations. (Source: BlockBeats)
