Based on 528btc, Amazon's Ring smart doorbell now includes an AI-powered facial recognition feature called 'Familiar Faces,' allowing users to identify up to 50 regular visitors and set personalized alerts. The feature encrypts data and automatically deletes unrecognized faces after 30 days. However, privacy advocates and Senator Ed Markey have criticized the move, citing Amazon's history of sharing data with law enforcement and a $5.8 million fine from the FTC for violating video access rules. The feature is currently banned in Illinois, Texas, and Portland, Oregon.
