ChainThink reports that on July 30, it was revealed that Amazon is adjusting its in-house AI strategy, having laid off some employees from its AGI team and shut down the AGI Lab established in 2024.
Subsequently, Amazon ceased major upgrades for most Nova flagship models. The Nova Premier, Omni, Reel video model, and Canvas image model will retain only existing customer support.
Nova is Amazon's proprietary AI model family, originally covering text, images, and video.
After the adjustment, Amazon will concentrate its human and computational resources on a new flagship foundational model, expected to be unveiled at AWS re:Invent this year, which may retain the name Nova or adopt a new brand.
This project is led by Pieter Abbeel, a professor of AI and robotics at the University of California, Berkeley, and founder of the robotics AI company Covariant.
Amazon introduced its core team and obtained licensing for the relevant model technologies in 2024.
