Amazon has launched an AI-powered upgrade to Alexa in the U.S., available to both Prime and non-Prime users. Built on a large language model, the new Alexa+ delivers real-time responses instead of pre-written answers. Initially offered to a subset of Prime members for $139 annually, it now accepts individual subscriptions at $19.99/month. As of January, tens of millions of users were reported to be on Alexa+. The move brings fresh AI + crypto news, with on-chain news also gaining traction as more tech giants explore blockchain integration.

Amazon (AMZN.O) officially launched the upgraded Alexa in the United States, offering an AI-enhanced digital assistant to paid Prime members. In February last year, Amazon announced the revamped digital assistant, which is built on large language models and can instantly generate answers to questions. Previous versions of Alexa relied on pre-written fixed responses for common questions. During the 11-month early access period, U.S. Prime members who paid an annual fee of $139 could apply to use the software and received access in batches. Daniel Rausch, Amazon's vice president in charge of the Alexa and Echo smart speaker teams, said that as of January, tens of millions of people were using Alexa+. Starting Wednesday, non-Prime users can also subscribe to Alexa+ separately for $19.99 per month, which amounts to about $100 more per year than the Prime membership. (Jinshi)
