Alibaba’s Gaode is set to launch its first quadruped robot, entering the robotics hardware market. The company has been developing embodied intelligence and testing hardware such as quadruped and humanoid robots. The new product will compete with Unitree’s Go2, priced at $1,600. Key altcoins to watch include Gaode’s potential expansion into humanoid models, as the sector draws significant investment. The robotics fear and greed index is rising, with firms like UBTech offering up to $18 million for top talent. Gaode’s entry is supported by its strong navigation and spatial data capabilities.

ME News reports that on April 14 (UTC+8), according to monitoring by 1M AI News, Amap’s Embodied Intelligence research division, a subsidiary of Alibaba, is preparing to launch a quadruped robot—Alibaba’s first hardware product in the robotics field. An Amap spokesperson stated that the company has made substantial investments in embodied intelligence, consistently releasing multiple embodied models and actively exploring hardware formats such as quadruped and humanoid robots, with the first quadruped robot expected to be released “soon.” The product will directly compete with Unitree’s Go series, whose Go2 model is priced at $1,600. Amap is also evaluating the feasibility of humanoid robots. Alibaba thus joins an increasingly crowded field, as Unitree, Agibot, and affiliated company Ant Group have already entered this space. Talent competition is intensifying as well: robotics company UBTECH is currently offering a maximum salary of RMB 124 million (approximately $18 million) to recruit a Chief Scientist. It is no surprise that Amap—originally founded on mapping and local life services—is entering robotics: the company has accumulated vast amounts of indoor and outdoor spatial data and navigation algorithms, which form the foundational capabilities essential for mobile robots.
