In accordance with Forklog, 2Wai's new iOS app, which uses AI to generate digital avatars of deceased loved ones, has faced widespread criticism. The app, which launched a beta version on November 11, 2025, allows users to create HoloAvatars based on uploaded video, audio, and text prompts. It is built on 2Wai's FedBrain technology, which processes data locally to enhance privacy. The app's promotional video, featuring actor Calum Worthy, has garnered nearly 40 million views. However, users have condemned the product as 'nightmarish,' 'dystopian,' and 'exploitative of grief.' Legal experts note that 'death bots' exist in a gray area, with unclear regulations on consent and data ownership. Similar products include HereAfter AI and Replika, while the Hollywood AI voice and motion capture strike in July 2024 highlights ongoing industry concerns.
