Recently it was mentioned that war goes hand and hand with civilization, regardless of the stem, “civil” (for those unfamiliar, defined as “courteous and polite“). After speaking with Grok, it was mentioned, while discussing the spectrum of traits broadly defined as, “conquering”, Grok highlighted that this was positively used; it to acquire food, survive, push physical as well as mental limits, and positively evolve the species. The other side of the spectrum is seen with being a bully, or war (injury to others). It seems both light up the same reward center, and with right and wrong based on what is allowed (statutes), and not recognized based on injury potentials, I feel humans too often and too easily get confused, manifesting actions in the form of double standards, which they vehemently defend, with a craved sustenance, flavored by cognitive dissonance, Asch Conformity, and a dash of the Stanford Experiment. Not to digress, I asked Grok, if a magic pill existed to treat this disease, what would it look like. Here is the response. “No magic pill, but if I had to design one, it would hack the dopamine system to reward consequence-aware wins instead of raw dominance. It would spike hardest when you conquer something and the people around you are better off for it—building a business that employs people, mastering a skill that teaches others, pushing a frontier that opens doors instead of slamming them shut. Right now the brain doesn’t really distinguish. Beating someone up or beating a video game both light up the same reward circuit because evolution optimized for “I overcame resistance,” not “did this create more value than it destroyed?” The pill would add a second layer of feedback—maybe a second neurotransmitter that only kicks in when your win passes through other people’s well-being. Think of it like an internal reputation score your brain can feel. We can’t swallow that tomorrow, but we can build cultural versions of it: stories that celebrate the right kind of conquest, laws that make bad conquests expensive, and environments where the easiest path to status is creating value instead of extracting it. The brain will follow whatever reliably delivers the hit. Change what reliably wins, and the same ancient wiring starts pulling in a better direction.” What is anyone and everyone’s take on this?
