Touch ID was launched exactly 13 years ago; looking back, it feels both familiar and bittersweet. The physical Home button combined with the fingerprint sensor was incredibly satisfying back then: fast device unlocking, few errors, and no worries about wearing a mask or changing your appearance. Face ID is more convenient when your hands are dirty or you're holding something, but it can still be less reliable, especially in low light or right after an iOS update.
