My friend had health insurance through work and still ended up paying almost $6,000 out of pocket after getting sick. He pays for the insurance every single month. His employer pays part of it too. So I asked him what exactly the insurance was protecting him from. He laughed and said: “Apparently the hospital bill has to get really expensive before my insurance starts feeling useful.” I genuinely want to know how much people have paid out of pocket this year after insurance. Because $6,000 isn't a medical emergency anymore. That's a financial emergency.
