MY COUSIN HASN'T HAD A MORTGAGE IN 15+ YEARS, He's 68. He's lived in the same house since 1997. No mortgage. No landlord. No rent. But this year, the government wants $6,400 from him just because he owns the property. Last year it was $5,100. That's a $1,300 increase on someone living mostly on Social Security and a small pension. So what exactly does "owning your home" mean if you can lose it because you can't keep up with the yearly bill? I honestly don't understand how we normalized this.
