In the annals of Nigeria's stranger true stories, this one has stayed alive for over three decades for a reason. In 1991, a preacher known as Daniel Abodunrin walked toward the lion enclosure at the University of Ibadan Zoological Garden, convinced he could reenact the Bible's story of Daniel surviving a den of lions untouched. Zoo staff reportedly turned down his repeated pleas to be let in, but he eventually made his way into the cage anyway, dressed in a red robe with a Bible tucked under his arm, reciting scripture as he stepped closer. The lions retreated at first. Then they didn't. They had a great human dinner.
