House prosecution counsel Erwin Matib objected to the defense’s line of questioning during the cross-examination of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Director Gerardo Del Rosario on Tuesday, after defense counsel Justin Nicol Gular asked the witness about the technical definition of “conflict of interest” under Republic Act 6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees. Matib argued that the issue was not covered during Del Rosario’s direct examination, was outside the scope of the questioning, and could unnecessarily prolong the cross-examination.
