𝐢𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭. iit bombay students protested after a second-year student died by suicide hours after being caught using a phone during an exam. the institute said he had uploaded the paper to chatgpt, received counselling, and faced no disciplinary action. students demanded accountability and stronger mental-health support. this is much bigger than an exam or chatgpt. a student’s life should never be reduced to marks, rules, or academic pressure. the conflicting accounts about what happened after the exam also need a transparent investigation. iit bombay should strengthen counselling, create safer ways for students to seek help, and make sure academic mistakes don’t become overwhelming personal crises for anyone involved.
