Last week, I checked into a hotel after a long journey. The room looked great in the photos, but within a few minutes, I noticed a problem. The bed was placed directly under a bright ceiling light that couldn't be dimmed or switched off separately. The moment I lay down, the light was shining straight into my eyes. I called reception and politely asked, "Is there any way to turn off this light without switching off all the lights in the room?" The staff replied, "Ma'am, this is a premium designer setup. We spent a lot of money on this lighting." I smiled and said, "I understand, but it's difficult to relax when the light is directly above the bed." The answer surprised me. "Ma'am, the interior designer recommended this layout. Guests usually like it." At that moment, I realized something important. Sometimes businesses become so attached to their investment that they forget the actual purpose behind it. Guests don't care how expensive the lights were. They care about whether they could rest comfortably. Customers don't buy your effort. They buy the experience your effort creates. A hotel room isn't judged by the money spent on decoration. It's judged by how well a guest sleeps at night. In business, defending a decision is easy. Understanding a customer's discomfort is much harder. And that's what truly makes the difference. What do you think matters more? Expensive design or guest comfort? Tell me in the comments 👇
