The Risk On hosts discuss how the UK is banning Social Media for anyone under the age of 16! Sats: "They plan to do this at a device level so it can't really be bypassed with VPNs." "As soon as you buy an iPhone in the UK now, you get ID checked and you get KYC'd. If you're not above the age of 16, you cannot use any social media at all." Wood: "I'm gonna go on a limb and say as a father, I like this." Sats: "This is a parent's decision not a government decision." Wood: "but you can't enforce it as a parent if other parents aren't doing it." Sats: "This seems like a step to push digital IDs in the name of child safety. This feels like a way to control everyone's phone and make everyone KYC." Wood: "It's possible, but I take my son to swim lessons and I look at the wall and there's all these middle school kids, they're not talking to each other... they are staring at their phones looking at TikTok. It's the saddest thing when I was in 8th grade we would all be swimming... now they are doing dumbass TikTok dances." Sats: "I think I wouldn't be where I am today without social media if I was under 16. I think it will limit growth in this country more than we can ever imagine. Yes social media has some bad, but there's some awful good." Swizzle: "We all recognize the negative effects, but like what are the unintended consequences of allowing the government to make these types of decisions? That's an insane slippery slope."
