The scientists absolutely do have linkedin accounts. I have a legacy account over there, and my timeline is filled with humblebragging, kissing up to people with higher titles, performative praise, and conformity with institutional talking points, including the current doomsday NIH narrative. But it is not surprising once you recognize what academia has become. Academia is now a corporate ladder climb like any other profession. The principles it was built on have been replaced by institutional strategy, asset management, branding and marketing, lobbying, compliance, and career advancement. Scientists, teachers, and the doctors in academic medicine occupy the lower rungs of that hierarchy rather than the top. Once you understand that, it becomes obvious why academics gravitate toward LinkedIn. It is an HR and career-promotion platform.
