If crimes committed in the name of a perfect God are possible, two conclusions become unavoidable: - Either God is not perfect, contradicting His attributes. - Or His human representatives are free to commit atrocities in His name without His intervention, contradicting His benevolent omnipotence. The Enlightenment explicitly acknowledges its human fallibility and does not claim divine perfection. The asymmetry is fundamental.
