Many are upset that I’ve used the money explicitly given by grandparents and godparents “for food” for that exact purpose, and also question how I’m investing the funds for the children (Bitcoin, gold, and silver instead of ETFs). Here’s the real performance of some gold holdings already in place for our older children, sorted by purchase date: 🪙 5g Gold Bar (Jan 2023) Purchase: €317.80 → Today: €690.08 +117.1% (+€372) in approx. 3.5 years 🪙 Vienna Philharmonic ¼ oz (Mar 2023) Purchase: €466.20 → Today: €1,021.76 +119.2% (+€556) in approx. 3.25 years 🪙 Vienna Philharmonic ½ oz (Jul 2023) Purchase: €939.70 → Today: €2,006 +113.5% (+€1,066) in approx. 3 years This demonstrates that we are successfully saving and investing in hard assets for all our children. None of them will ever face financial hardship—quite the opposite. The true purpose of such gifts is to give the child a genuine financial head start—not to spend it later on consumption, a driver’s license, or simply hold it in a depot to “hand over” at age 18. We (parents, grandparents, and godparents) already save diligently and separately for each child. The baptismal gift is a bonus allocated to physical gold, silver, and Bitcoin because these best preserve purchasing power over the long term and represent real, tangible money. ETFs are a great option for many. But we consciously choose hard assets—and as you can see, this approach has more than paid off so far. Thank you to everyone who shared their views constructively with me. And also thank you to those who seemed to think you’re morally superior to me.
