So these are some great observations, but I think there's a way for places like Harvard to fix it. This is to find ways to measure the performance of students and report to them their performance at an objective global level, rather than amongst a very small group of elite peers. This would help them get a much more balanced perspective on their performance and probably lead to a lot fewer of them giving up.
