I asked the shopkeeper for one, but he refused, saying: “A lighter costs one yuan to make; I can’t give it away for free.” Just then, another customer came in to buy the same pack of cigarettes for 200 yuan. He also didn’t have a lighter, so he said to the shopkeeper: “How about you knock one yuan off the price?” The shopkeeper happily agreed. The customer then used that one yuan to buy the lighter.
