Immutability
The term immutable describes anything incapable of or impossible to change. Within the context of the blockchain and crypto industry, immutability is one of the most powerful features of distributed ledger technology, which makes it impossible to tamper with any data recorded in the blockchain.
Once a record or block is created in a blockchain network, it is immutable, meaning it cannot be changed, altered, or tampered with. Blockchain technology is superior to conventional databases, and ledger systems as transactions cannot be manipulated, erased, or falsified once they occur.
Immutability is one of the strongest features of public blockchain networks, as it ensures data integrity and places higher trust in the decentralized system. This feature also makes it possible and convenient for data stored on the blockchain to be audited, making the auditing process redundant and allowing for significant savings in cost and time.
