zkPass: Your Gateway to Private Data Verification
Vision: To bridge Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 by creating a trustless, privacy-preserving protocol that allows anyone to prove statements about their private online data without ever revealing the data itself.
Mission: To empower users with true data sovereignty, enabling seamless, secure verification of personal information (like income, credentials, or health data) for decentralized applications, all while maintaining absolute privacy.
What Is zkPass?
zkPass is a groundbreaking cryptographic protocol that solves a critical problem in the digital age: how do you prove something about your private data without showing the data to anyone? Imagine needing to prove your bank account balance exceeds a certain amount for a loan, but without revealing your actual transactions. zkPass makes this possible.
It acts as a secure bridge between the traditional internet (Web 2.0, where your data lives on sites like banks or government portals) and the decentralized world (Web 3.0, like DeFi or DAOs). By leveraging a powerful trio of technologies—3-Party Transport Layer Security (TLS), Multi-Party Computation (MPC), and Interactive Zero-Knowledge Proofs (IZK)—zkPass lets you generate a verifiable proof that your data is authentic and meets specific criteria, all while keeping the data itself entirely private.
Core Technology: The Privacy-Preserving Trio
-
3-Party Transport Layer Security (3P-TLS)
TLS is the security protocol behind every "https://" website. zkPass innovates by splitting the role of the standard TLS "client" between two parties: the User (who owns the data) and a zkPass Node. Together, they securely fetch data from the DataSource (e.g., your bank's website). This ensures the data is retrieved directly from the official source, preventing forgery, while preventing any single party from seeing the full, unencrypted data stream.
-
Multi-Party Computation (MPC)
MPC allows multiple parties to jointly compute a function over their inputs while keeping those inputs private. In zkPass, MPC is used during the TLS handshake to generate and split the session keys. The result? The zkPass Node helps verify the data's integrity (that it hasn't been tampered with) but never has the key to decrypt and read your sensitive information. This prevents both user fraud and node snooping.
-
Interactive Zero-Knowledge Proof (IZK)
This is the magic that enables privacy. After fetching the data, the user needs to prove a statement about it (e.g., "My age > 18"). Instead of sending the document, zkPass uses IZK protocols. The user generates a cryptographic proof that attests to the truth of their statement. The verifier can check this proof is valid and corresponds to genuine data from the stated source, learning nothing else about the user's actual information.
How It Works: A Simple Example
Let's say a decentralized lending platform requires proof of a minimum income.
-
Connect: You (the User) use the zkPass app to securely log into your bank's portal (DataSource), assisted by a zkPass Node.
-
Fetch & Compute: Your encrypted income data is fetched. You and the node use MPC to confirm the data is authentic from the bank.
-
Prove: You use IZK to generate a proof that states: "The data from [Bank Website] contains an income field with a value > $50,000."
-
Verify: You submit only this proof to the lending platform (Verifier). They verify it cryptographically, are assured of its truth, and approve your application—all without ever seeing your bank statements or exact balance.
Why zkPass? Key Benefits
-
Complete Privacy: Never share raw personal documents again. Prove what's needed, reveal nothing more.
-
Data Sovereignty: You own and control your data. You choose when and for what purpose to generate proofs.
-
Trust Minimization: Verification is based on cryptography and open-source code, not blind trust in intermediaries.
-
Broad Compatibility: Works with any website that uses standard HTTPS, covering most of the internet.
-
Web3 Enablement: Unlocks real-world data for DeFi, DAOs, gaming, and digital identity without compromising on decentralization or privacy.
Vision: Unlocking a Verifiable, Private Future
zkPass is building the essential infrastructure for a trustworthy digital society. It enables a future where:
-
Users can access services based on their real-world reputation and assets with zero privacy trade-offs.
-
dApps can implement sophisticated, compliant onboarding (KYC) and eligibility checks in a decentralized way.
-
The Internet becomes a source of verifiable, yet private, credentials, seamlessly connecting our existing digital lives to the emerging decentralized ecosystem.
