From Solving Problems to Leading Breakthroughs
When Jenka Wu sees a problem without a clear owner, he rarely waits.
His instinct is simple: If no one is taking this on, can I?
That mindset has shaped his journey at KuCoin.
2 years ago, Jenka joined as an individual contributor focused on technical solutions. Today, he leads a team of around 20 engineers responsible for core platform systems.
His growth wasn’t defined by one big opportunity, but by the trust he earned through taking ownership and delivering, time and again.
Start With Ownership
Before KuCoin, Jenka spent years at a top leading internet technology firm, working on large-scale backend systems and financial technology.
He eventually found himself looking for something different: an environment where the technology was still evolving, where problems didn’t always come with ready-made answers.
That brought him to KuCoin.
What attracted him was not a perfectly finished system, but the opportunity to help build one.
At KuCoin, Jenka took on increasingly complex challenges — from designing scalable technical foundations to solving problems that crossed teams and functions.
He didn’t wait for someone to tell him what to own.
He found what needed to be done, and stepped in.
Step Up Before the Title
When his team went through a period of change, Jenka began taking on responsibilities beyond his role—aligning priorities, coordinating resources, supporting the team, and keeping delivery on track.
He didn’t wait for the title before doing the job.
A few months later, he formally stepped up the team leadership role.
For Jenka, leadership meant more than making the right technical decisions. It meant creating an environment where the team could make good decisions, move quickly, and deliver together.
Jenka is open about the fact that KuCoin was at a different stage of technical development from the large technology companies where he had previously worked.
Delivery processes, infrastructure, and parts of the product experience were still maturing. As business demand increased in the second half of 2025, the pressure on project delivery grew, and the team went through changes in both structure and personnel.
Jenka focused on what he could control: the standard of his own work and the results he was responsible for delivering.
Then his team leader left. Jenka could have remained focused on his own engineering responsibilities.
Instead, he began taking on the work that was at risk of falling between roles—aligning priorities, coordinating resources, tracking delivery, and helping team members work through dependencies.
He did not wait for the title before doing the job.
Over the following three months, he gradually assumed the responsibilities of a team leader before formally moving into the role.
It marked a change not only in his position, but also in how he defined his contribution. His responsibility was no longer limited to finding the right technical answer. He now had to create the conditions in which an entire team could deliver.
Build What’s Next
One of the projects that shaped his leadership approach was a new live-streaming platform delivered under a tight timeline.
Rather than trying to build everything from scratch, Jenka focused first on a more fundamental question:
What should we build, and what should we enable the team to build faster?
By combining internal capabilities with proven external solutions, the team delivered the platform on schedule while building an architecture designed to scale.
For Jenka, that experience reinforced an important lesson:
Great engineering isn’t about solving every problem yourself. It’s about creating the conditions for a team to solve the right problems well.
Opportunity Follows Ownership
Jenka’s journey at KuCoin—from individual contributor to technical owner to team leader—wasn’t mapped out in advance.
It evolved through every moment when someone needed to step forward.
That is also what makes growth possible at KuCoin.
You don’t always need to wait for the next title, the next role, or the next opportunity.
Sometimes, you create it by taking ownership of what matters.
At KuCoin, growth starts when you step up.
