Illuminating Progress: KuCoin's 2024 CSR Initiatives Lead the Way to a Brighter Future
In 2024, KuCoin made significant breakthroughs in the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) sectors, marking a pivotal year in strengthening its foundation in corporate social responsibility (CSR). Continuing the spirit of the United Nations' COP28, KuCoin has actively pursued its social commitments, particularly in climate change, health, and education. The focus was on three main projects: the "Light Up Africa" children's solar lamps, the Menstrual Equity Project, and the Climate Change Bucket, collaborating with the United Nations, AMWA, and other CSR partners to effectively support women and children, positively impacting the industry image.
Key Project 1: Light Up Africa
In partnership with the Smiling Simon Greenbuild Foundation, KuCoin launched the "Light Up Africa" project, providing solar lamps to children in rural African regions to enable them to study at night.
In February 2024, 2,500 solar lamps were distributed to 25 schools in Nigeria. By October, an additional 7,200 lamps reached communities in Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Ghana.
A donation ceremony in Ghana on December 19, in collaboration with Global CSR and Smiling Simon Greenbuild Foundation, marked further success. Dr. Anita Nana Okuribido noted the transformation in learning conditions as children moved from studying by candlelight to using solar lamps, impacting approximately 50,000 children throughout the year.
Key Project 2: Menstrual Equity Project
Together with AMWA, KuCoin initiated the Menstrual Equity Project to provide sustainable menstrual health solutions to disadvantaged young girls and women globally, allowing them to continue their education and daily lives with dignity. In March, 1,000 reusable menstrual kits were distributed to locations including Suriname, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and domestic violence shelters in New York and California. Each kit contained 10 sanitary pads and 2 menstrual cups, emphasizing the commitment to ensuring access to basic menstrual hygiene.
Key Project 3: Climate Change Bucket
In March 2024, KuCoin, in collaboration with Global CSR and the American Medical Women's Association, launched the "Climate Change Bucket" project aimed at providing basic health protections to pregnant women, infants, and children against pollution, deadly diseases, and extreme weather caused by climate change. The buckets, containing items like safety pads, thermometers, Earth-embracing pillows, and soap, were designed to help communities cope with climate-related impacts. The first event distributed 1,900 buckets to the Commonwealth of Bahamas and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, supporting communities in Africa to enhance climate resilience.
On September 17th, H.E. Ann Marie Davis, the First Lady of the Commonwealth of Bahamas, hosted and presided over the handover ceremony.
In 2024, KuCoin's CSR projects—"Light Up Africa," "Climate Change Bucket," and "Menstrual Equity Project"—demonstrated the transformative potential of combining innovation with compassion. These efforts not only improved the lives of millions but also highlighted KuCoin's crucial role as a catalyst for global change.
Looking ahead to 2025, KuCoin remains committed to expanding these impactful projects and exploring new opportunities to address pressing global challenges. By collaborating with partners and the global community, KuCoin is paving the way for a brighter, fairer future, building a sustainable world through innovation and responsibility, and striving to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. KuCoin will continue to increase its CSR efforts and spread awareness, enhancing its brand image and creating a better future together.
