As we celebrate African Women’s Day on July 31, a day dedicated to honoring the resilience, contributions, and empowerment of women across the continent, KuCoin proudly reflects on our commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR). This day, rooted in the 1962 founding of the Pan-African Women’s Organization, underscores the strength of African women in driving social, economic, and political change. At KuCoin, we see this as a pivotal moment to showcase how cryptocurrency and blockchain can amplify these efforts, fostering financial inclusion, gender equality, and sustainable development across Africa and beyond.

In 2025, KuCoin’s CSR initiatives have achieved significant milestones, earning the United Nations World Women Organization (UNWWO) 2025 Corporate Social Responsibility Award for our advancements in Web3 financial inclusion, women’s health, children’s education, and sustainability. Presented at the Global Women Leadership Summit during CSW69, this award recognizes the impact of our flagship projects: "Light Up Africa," the "Menstrual Equity Project," and the "Climate Change Bucket." These initiatives have transformed over 50,000 lives in the first half of 2025, with a strong focus on Africa and gender empowerment.

Shining a Light on Education and Empowerment in Africa

Africa's high crypto adoption rates — with user growth surging 200-2,500% in countries like Nigeria and South Africa—present a unique opportunity to leverage blockchain for social good. KuCoin's "Light Up Africa" initiative addresses energy poverty in rural communities, providing solar reading lamps to children without access to electricity. This not only enables nighttime studying but also reduces reliance on harmful kerosene, promoting health and environmental sustainability.

We distributed over 9,700 solar lamps across Ghana, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone, benefiting approximately 50,000 children. This project empowers young girls in particular, who often bear the brunt of household chores and limited educational access due to energy constraints. By lighting up their futures, we're contributing to gender equality in education, aligning with African Women's Day themes of empowerment and unity.

Advancing Gender Equality Through Health and Inclusion

KuCoin's dedication to gender equality extends beyond Africa, but our efforts resonate deeply with the continent's focus on women's health and economic participation. The "Menstrual Equity Project," launched in partnership with the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) at COP28, provides sustainable menstrual hygiene products to marginalized women and girls, combating period poverty and supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on health and gender equality.

We've empowered over 5,000 women and girls with 5,000 menstrual kits, including expansions benefiting 4,000 women in the Bahamas and integrating hygiene supplies into 1,900 "Climate Change Buckets" for disaster-prone areas. These efforts address barriers that prevent girls from attending school, directly supporting women's economic participation.

Additionally, we champion women in crypto through events like our International Women's Day 2025 celebrations, including the "Accelerate HerCrypto" giveaway and Twitter Spaces featuring female leaders in Web3. Surveys reveal that 52% of women prefer long-term crypto investments, highlighting their growing role in driving Web3 development.
