According to TokenInsight's latest Crypto Exchange Report, KuCoin strengthened its position among major cryptocurrency exchanges during the second quarter of 2026, expanding both its overall market share and its presence in the futures market despite a broader normalization in industry trading activity.

The report shows that KuCoin generated approximately US$490 billion in total trading volume during Q2 2026. Its overall market share increased from 2.83% in the first quarter to 2.96% in the second quarter, making it one of the few major exchanges to gain market share over the period.

The most notable shift came in derivatives. KuCoin's share of futures open interest rose from 2.23% to 6.20%, representing approximately 178% quarter-over-quarter growth—the largest increase among all exchanges covered in TokenInsight's report.

Unlike trading volume, open interest represents the total value of outstanding futures contracts that remain active on an exchange. As a result, it is widely regarded as an indicator of sustained market participation, liquidity depth and the amount of capital committed to a derivatives venue.

KuCoin's increase in open interest share suggests that a larger proportion of outstanding futures positions migrated to the platform during the quarter. While the metric does not indicate whether traders are positioned long or short, it does provide insight into where market participants are choosing to deploy capital. The report therefore points to growing participation in KuCoin's derivatives market and a strengthening competitive position within the sector.

Taken together, the gains in both overall market share and futures open interest share present a broader picture of KuCoin's performance during Q2. While market share reflects the exchange's ability to capture trading activity, open interest offers an additional perspective on its capacity to attract and retain active derivatives positions over time.

The findings also reflect a broader shift in how centralized exchanges are evaluated. As the digital asset market continues to mature, competitive positioning is increasingly measured not only by headline trading volumes, but also by liquidity quality, execution efficiency, infrastructure reliability and the ability to support sustained institutional and professional trading activity. Against that backdrop, TokenInsight's Q2 report suggests KuCoin emerged as one of the quarter's strongest performers in terms of market share expansion, with particularly notable momentum in the derivatives market.
