Andrej Karpathy praises Fable 5 for its potential in code-free development.

According to Beating Monitor, Andrej Karpathy, co-founder of OpenAI and a recent addition to Anthropic last month, has also given high praise to Anthropic’s newly released Fable 5 model. Karpathy noted that Fable 5 represents a generational leap in performance, excelling particularly in complex, long-chain debugging tasks. He stated that when faced with large-scale development goals, the new model can quickly grasp intent and autonomously drive progress, even evoking for the first time a strong urge to avoid looking at code altogether—though Karpathy warned against doing so in production environments. Karpathy emphasized that when software becomes as readily available as tap water, the Jevons paradox will be triggered, causing developers’ demands to grow exponentially. This trigger will drive the creation of vast numbers of hyper-specific, one-time-use tools and massive test suites. However, Karpathy also pointed out that the initial security safeguards are still overly sensitive and require further optimization.
