Domas Povilauskas — Co-founder & CEO at Syntropy

Prior to founding Syntropy, Domas founded call-center solution Tellq, which was eventually acquired.

Jonas Simanavicius — Co-Founder & CTO at Syntropy

Jonas previously worked on the engineering and application development teams of Royal Bank of Scotland and JPMorgan Chase.

Q&A from KuCoin

Dom: Hi KuCoin community! Good to be here. Happy to answer all questions you guys have. Thanks for having us.

Jonas: Hi everyone! Good to be here. Always good to engage with the community! KuCoin has been a very important platform for us.

Dom: Yeah, very important!

Q: What is Syntropy? How do you position yourself in the market and what are your competitive advantages?

Dom: Syntropy transforms the public internet into a secure and user-centric internet through a unifying layer where encryption and optimized performance are built-in and automatically enabled for anything and everything connected to it.

It is also a centerpiece of the Web3 ecosystem, connecting all blockchains, users and applications through a trustless decentralized connectivity layer.

Jonas: The current internet was never designed for a complete utilization of resources. Today’s internet routing protocols, for example, do not take network performance into account when making routing decisions. That means traffic isn’t delivered along the fastest possible path, nor can it make dynamic decisions to avoid areas of congestion or censorship. Internet Service Providers can route packets in a way that saves them money, but causes packet loss or interrupted connections for the end user.

Blockchain technology can liberate the internet from centralisation and provide true fair performance and economy.

We position ourselves as the centre of decentralised connectivity as well as current internet infrastructure.

Our competitive advantage is being open and driven by community. WIth the new tokenomics, everyone will be able to participate in running the chain as well as being relays to provide the internet optimisations. No company or centralised product can compete and grow to such scale. This will be enabled by the people and powered by the token

Dom: The key competitive advantage is that our technology is compatible with today’s internet infrastructure and all existing protocols, so there is no need to change anything, just upgrade the current system with Syntropy. That's why it's so scalable and accessible as a new connectivity system.

Jonas: Also web3 cannot exist without a decentralised connectivity layer. Projects like Polkadot make blockchains interoperable and connect together, Syntropy makes everything interoperable when secure connections can be made between any internet connected devices in a decentralised way by making a blockchain transaction on Syntropy.

Dom: Syntropy has one of the most significant use-cases for blockchain technology, because it provides real utility for sending and securing data on the Internet. NOIA token serves as gas for data, similar to ETH as gas for computing.

Jonas: You can read more in our one-pager document: https://www.syntropynet.com/docs/onepager

Q: What are the best three examples of Syntropy technology use cases?

Dom: Gaming. Syntropy provides low-latency and stable connectivity across all points on the Internet. For gaming, their Internet performance is so important, Syntropy is the ultimate solution. Also, Syntropy protects game servers from hacking, DDoS and other security threats, keeping the gamer traffic always under private secure connection. Here is the DARP protocol live which shows latency improvements found across the Internet: https://darp.syntropystack.com

More on gaming use case: https://medium.com/syntropynet/how-syntropy-can-make-gaming-faster-safer-and-more-competitive-e3acb977c44e

Integration with Minecraft example:

https://medium.com/syntropynet/syntropy-stack-launches-integration-with-minecraft-1860bf22df5d

Jonas: Blockchain is one of the main use cases. Our technology helps to create secure and faster connections for blockchain deployments for example between validators or blockchain infrastructure. That is available already using Syntropy Stack, which is released. This ensures security of validators and can result in earning increase if validations are more reliable and faster. We launched several integrations already, one with Chainlink, an official integration with Elrond, also for Ethereum and Polkadot. Many more are coming as anyone can do open source integration and earn rewards through our Builders program.

Once the Syntropy chain is launched blockchains will be able to make decentralised connections and connect together or integrate into new blockchain protocols.

Polkadot: https://medium.com/syntropynet/syntropy-launches-polkadot-integration-45173115bb79

Chainlink: https://medium.com/syntropynet/syntropy-stack-launches-chainlink-integration-39e84b9c8b5

Ethereum: https://medium.com/syntropynet/syntropy-ethereum-combining-the-power-of-each-technology-38712950f59b

Also general Devops use cases for every developer for applications and IoT. Syntropy Stack already can be used by developers to create secure connections between any server or device. Enormous amount of new IoT devices will be connected to the internet in the coming years and Syntropy can automate that.

Also making connections through blockchain makes it even more secure as it allows for trustless connectivity which is currently not available in the world.

Every application people use daily uses servers and devices communicating together. We aim Syntropy to be core technology to make those connections by developers and enterprises. Similarly millions of IoT devices connected together using our technology and blockchain.

A lot of use cases and how they work already are described in our Development focused Medium section: https://medium.com/syntropynet/tagged/syntropy-dev

Finally VPN is huge. We provide people a way to very easily create a personal VPN, without relying on the security and privacy of their data to centralised providers. We launched this recently and it can be used by everyone here! Have a look, follow the tutorial and set up your personal VPN using Syntropy already: https://medium.com/syntropynet/syntropy-vpn-launches-today-595fcd215b7b

Q: Could you explain the NOIA token utility in the whole ecosystem?

Dom: The NOIA Token is the “gas” which facilitates the value-based economy.

It creates the initial financial incentives for this network to be created and then operated by and for the user community.

All connections and data sent through any device are accounted for in tokens. Hence, the token represents the unit of value derived from an Internet relay and its intrinsic value within the economy.

The more connections and endpoints will be connected, the more transactions will be on our blockchain and tokens used.

The more traffic is being sent over our network, the more tokens will be staked and circulating and bought as demand to use the services and pay for relay nodes.

To sum up: NOIA token is used for:

- Establishing end-to-end encrypted connections through trustless execution

- Storing and changing network configuration

- Buying and selling bandwidth contracts

- Data routing through Syntropy network

Q: Last month, you introduced a tokenomics paper and staking details. Could you explain in simple terms how to run a validator or nominator? Will it require technical expertise or just equipment with minimum specifications?

Jonas: We are building our chain using Substrate in the Polkadot ecosystem. People will be able to run validator nodes in our testnet and stake tokens on ERC-20 smart contracts. We will use an oracle to see which validators are running correctly and they will receive larger staking rewards. Running a validator will mark a huge step in launching our chain and it will produce a working blockchain. It will have minimum requirements for the node and some requirements like uptime and response time. Tutorials will be provided as well as a support group for validator runners.

Every other tokenholder will be able to stake their tokens on ERC-20 smart contracts and receive rewards. Once the mainnet launches people will be able to move their staked tokens to nominate validators and start participating in consensus and earn staking rewards in the mainnet chain.

Q: Just recently, former executives from AT&T, Verizon, Microsoft, and HP joined the Strategic Syntropy Advisory board. How do you attract such talents and what value do they bring to your project?

Dom: More and more powerful people from the largest technology and telecom companies are joining Syntropy because they simply understand how big and important this technology is. They believe in this mission and inevitability of this technology changing the Internet. This is the main reason how we've been able to attract so many powerful and influential people.

We’re very excited about Shawn Hakl, Roman Pacewicz and Joe Weinman joining the Syntropy team and helping us scale our technology to the world’s largest enterprises. We're adding more people now as we speak and more news will come out.

Free-Ask from KuCoin Community

Emilis — Head of CM at Syntropy also joined the AMA session.

Q: Does your VPN concept really provide security?

Jonas: Yes as it uses state-of-the-art WireGuard protocol which is now being adopted to core technologies and lets you create your private VPN, so you don't have to disclose any data or rely your connectivity quality on a third party VPN provider.

Q: Can Syntropy technology completely eliminate bottlenecks and limitations? How do you provide scalability for installed applications that can be experienced on the internet network?

What kind of technology does Syntropy use to connect all blockchains, users and applications? How do you contribute to the development of the Web3 ecosystem?

Dom: Yes, Syntropy can eliminate security and performance bottlenecks of the Internet. It is widely scalable and every application can easily be connected to the Syntropy network.

Syntropy uses Substrate-based Blockchain and DARP, decentralized routing protocol. Web3 is impossible without a decentralized connectivity layer, so it is impossible now without solutions such as Syntropy. We fill the essential gap and enable Web3.

Q: 1. What advantages does a dApp that is built using Syntropy on a blockchain have compared to a normal dApp that runs directly on a blockchain?

2. Can you tell me more about the Syntropy network? How do I envision this? As many cloud servers around the globe that are connected to each other?

Jonas:

1. dApps using Syntropy can initiate and make secure fast connections between any other internet connected devices through a blockchain transaction, so dApps or smart contracts can sonnect devices. Currently that's not available and we believe it is fundamentally groundbreaking technology. Currently dApps and smart contracts cannot connect devices together without centralised software in the middle.

2. Syntropy network will be consisting of millions of nodes around the world running DARP. They will consist of bare metal servers, virtual machines, personal devices and IoT devices and will share their internet segments while earning rewards. This network using Syntropy chain and DARP will be the new layer which makes any connection optimised and fair for user and uses NOIA as gas for data.

Q: Will there be your own mainnet?

Dom: Yes, we're building our chain using Substrate based on the Polkadot ecosystem.

Q: After the COVID-19, many projects were affected. What strategies did Syntropy have to control the negative impact of COVID-19?

Emilis: Actually, COVID-19 situation created a huge surge in demand for secure Internet connectivity, VPN and network services in general, which is a big driver for adoption of new technologies such as Syntropy’s. We see this situation as a good catalyst which boosted the awareness and helped us from the business side a little. Also, it could help a lot during the recession because we see that companies wouldn’t stop investing into that area.

Q: Will there be a staking NOIA in the future?

Emilis: Staking starts this month. Check out our staking paper: https://www.syntropynet.com/docs/staking

Q: What is your project’s main goal?

Dom: To provide the ultimate solution for Internet data security, privacy and connection performance for all users.

Syntropy does that by enabling users to create their own data routing system, overriding the current telecom controlled system.

Q: What is your revenue model and what ways do you generate revenue/profits to maintain your NOIA token project? In what ways does it benefit investors and the project to give a win-win situation?

Jonas: Blockchain revenue is generated by making transactions and sending data. These are the biggest utilities of the token. To make connections people and systems will make transactions on the blockchain and to pay for optimised traffic NOIA will be used as gas.

Syntropy Stack software alone will also be revenue generating and will provide value to token holders by bringing traffic to the network.

Q: Is the NOIA token already listed on an exchange or DEX, CEX and how do you get your NOIA token and where can I buy it? Can you give the NOIA token smart contract?

Emilis: You can buy NOIA on KuCoin, Uniswap and Nash. Our contract address:

0xa8c8CfB141A3bB59FEA1E2ea6B79b5ECBCD7b6ca

May will actually be an interesting month for Syntropy. Check out what’s yet to come:

Time to grow. Node program. NOIA staking. Genesis event. Windows/Mac applications. VPN launch. DAO vision. Plus a few surprises. All in 60 days.

Q: I'm new to crypto, and I trust a project. I ended up investing my hard-earned money; and some of it turned out to be a scam. What guarantees will you give to a lay investor like me that you won't scam? Is your project audited?

Dom: We are a legit and ultra-dedicated project, working for more than 3 years and already proved our dedication through the worst time and now keep on building through the best times.

Q: Why the name NOIA?

Emilis: We rebranded from NOIA Network to Syntropy, but decided to keep the same token ticker. It’s a part of our history.

Dom: NOIA - Network Of Internet Acceleration

Q: So the ideal goal is the user centric internet interface and what all are the beneficial facts of Syntropy other than this?

Jonas: Developers and application developers as well as blockchain and dApp developers will be able to get better internet performance and security by letting Syntropy do internet routing and not ISPs. This is a fundamental shift and not available currently. It brings both technological benefits as faster data routing and better security as well as impact shifts of making the internet controlled by the end users and not ISPs.

Q: According to the roadmap, what are your most important next priorities? Does your team have enough funds and a strong community to achieve those milestones?

Emilis: Yes we are sufficiently funded for development. You can see our roadmap above.

Q: Is it difficult to use NOIA in an existing infrastructure, do you have to follow certain rules to be able to use it?

Dom: No, it is not difficult and we're making it easier and easier. Our goal is to have a "one-click" solution where user will be able to just connect and use it all the time.

Now we focus on the developers to help them connect applications and build. Check here: https://syntropystack.com

Q: Token burn is important for investors, do you have any plan to burn or buy back?

Dom: Yes, we're actively discussing that and evaluating. Watching what ETH and other large projects will do about it.

Q: Demand for the token needs to come from utility. When can we expect NOIA token utility? Will it happen this year?

Jonas: Yes, staking for validators will open first and they will be running our testnet, also smart contracts for staking for all token holders will be launched so full token utility to enable new tokenomics will kick start this year and will remain while we're building the testnet. Our testnet will also be a functioning blockchain where people will be able to connect devices together already.

Emilis: During testnet, the main utility will be staking. Staking starts this month, stay tuned here:

https://t.me/SyntropyNet

Q: What is the meaning of the name “Syntropy"? Which countries are the main markets that NOIA is focusing on now?

Emilis: Syntropy is the opposite of entropy, and entropy is chaos. The Internet is in Entropy. We create Syntropy. Turning chaos into harmony. The main market is the US.

Q: Is this legit?

Dom: As legit as it can get.

Jonas: Yes.

Q: All project's coins have their main utilities and real-life use! So, can you tell us what the main role of your coin is in your ecosystem? Explain its utilities and real-life use cases. And why should i invest in your coin for the long term?

Jonas: The 4 inevitable utilities:

1. To provide security for the blockchain (Staking for PoS and validator rewards)

2. To provide rewards for relay nodes

3. To pay for transactions to connect devices

4. To pay for data as gas which enables high value transactions and generates a lot of revenue to the blockchain, in effect raising validator and nominator rewards and increases the amount of tokens staken in the ecosystem.

Q: What is the NOIA token strongest advantage that you think will make your team leading the market? And in contrast, what is your weakness? How do you plan to overcome it?

Emilis: We have a strong team of former billion business tech executives and founders, we have strong long-term fundamentals and an amazing community. As for weaknesses, we are heavily focused on hiring new people as we are scaling quickly and it’s hard to find strong talents quick enough!

Q: What are your major goals to achieve in the next 3-4 years? And what are your plans to expand and gain more adoption?

Dom: The upcoming 1 year will be ultra-important for the project. We're working on significant enterprise adoption and also will be actively expanding on attracting developers to build applications using Syntropy. Both are essential for global adoption.

Also, launching Syntropy blockchain will be a huge catalyst for the token usage and economy.

Q: You mentioned gaming as one of the areas, which NOIA aims to improve via Syntropy. Do you have plans or any major partnerships in the gaming industry, besides Minecraft? Maybe Cybersport?

Emilis: Join our CS:GO tournament and see how Syntropy improves gaming by yourself:

https://medium.com/syntropynet/syntropy-cs-go-tournament-powered-by-dathost-5cbbb9080365

Q: What are the marketing strategies of your NOIA token project? What will you do so that your project will be visible in the crypto field and people come to explore your project?

Emilis: Some of our marketing activities include:

- PR. We've partnered with some leading PR agencies that have experience working with developer audiences.

- Pay-per-click campaigns. Our research has shown that developer audiences congregate on Twitter and Reddit, and we will be focusing on these networks for our initial PPC sprint. Google Ad campaigns will follow in the short to medium term. This will provide us with a constant drip of new users and increase brand awareness.

- Developer advocates and evangelists. We are partnering with several experienced developer advocates that will connect with external developer communities, helping, onboarding and selling them on the what and why. We also plan to partner with technology evangelists and influencers, who would focus on selling VPs and C-suits on our solution's importance for their business's longevity.

- Events. We will tap into developer communities worldwide by attending and speaking in local and global meetups, conferences, podcasts and organizing hackathons. You might have noticed that Bill and Jonas are already active on that front.

- Content marketing. It is central to our marketing and community building efforts. We are establishing long-term relationships with technical writers, who will generate relevant content for developer audiences. They will be working on different content types, ranging from tutorials to relevant blog posts, technical use-cases, and more high-level articles. Our writers are actual DevOps or Networking experts, so we are sure that our content will resonate with our target developer audiences.

Q: If Syntropy is used for gaming, does it prevent the one who is using it from hacking or it prevents other hackers from being queued with the one who is using it? And are there any FPS drop issues for using Syntropy?

Jonas: It provides better security for gamers and game server owners or game companies alike. I'll give you an example. Syntropy Stack already has integration of Minecraft where players in a Discord channel can automatically connect into a single Virtual Private Network and play together without being exposed to the public internet so no one can coin their game or try to hack or DDoS them. The same applies for any gaming competition big or small.

Game servers also normally have public IP addresses which are prone everyday to DDoS attacks and also gamer data is being scanned for vulnerabilities and hacked. Instead, games can use Syntropy to facilitate secure connections between games and their players directly and closed from the public internet.

Instead of FPS drop, it should actually increase because every Syntropy connection is optimised for best latency.

Q: Is Syntropy a similar system like VPN? And if it isn't, how is it supposed to make my internet secure, is it able to hide my IP address or change it? And if it is similar, how is it any different than other VPNs already out there?

Dom: It makes the whole Internet as if everything would be running on VPN. All connections become private, secure and optimised.

When you're using a VPN, your data is in the hands of the VPN providers, so it's not secure and private in that sense. With Syntropy you own your data and it's fully trustless, so it establishes real security and privacy.
